Description of Italo-Illyrian [Ostrya carpinifolia] sub-thermophilous [Quercus] woods

Often varied forests of the supra-Mediterranean and occasionally meso- or thermo-Mediterranean, levels of northern Italy, the Drava and Sava basin and the western Balkan peninsula, dominated by oaks other than Quercus pubescens, Quercus macrolepis, Quercus trojana or their allies, and, in particular, by Quercus cerris, Quercus petraea and their allies, usually associated with Ostrya carpinifolia, Carpinus orientalis, Carpinus betulus, Fraxinus ornus and other species.
